Maybe worth a thread in its own right so we can learn about six sigma and how the concepts/disciplines might help us take better pictures - or are they also only taken if the right people, with the right skills are present in the right place to get the shots?

Well after placing my order over a week ago I just had an email from Jacobs to say they have put my Sigma 180mm macro on back order as they have to get one direct from Sigma. As it was supposedly in stock on their web site and now I find it wasn't I just phoned and cancelled.
Cheeky ba****s took the money on the day of ordering though which I didn't think was allowed under distance selling regs.

Ahh well Mike... that at least makes it easier when that elusive Pentax FA* 200 mm macro comes for sale

I have read a number of threads on this board that touch on the subject of the impact of Six Sigma on the cost reductions and process improvements that can be made in the non manufacturing areas of a business. It seems to me that whilst we are constantly trying to nail our suppliers and improve manufacturing processes in order to reduce time, waste, stock holding or improve our JIT environments we are ignoring one of the major things that hits our bottom line - that of our inability to recruit the right people at the right time with the right skills in the right geographical location.
