Sigma DL Auto Focus 75-300mm f4.5/5.6 Zoom

Hi chaps; just wanted to gague your opinions on this lens if anybody has any experience with it?

A friend of mine who has my old K100D is keen on getting a cheap 300mm lens, and I thought i'd have a quick look on ebay for him.

I have one of these that i use on an old Minolta Film Camera and its a very honest lens.
No Bells, whistles etc.
However it is dated now and the price is high so i would avoid it.
This one however if you can get it for the same price or cheaper is far better.

I have one, and to be honest have never used it on digital.

Its like most of the budget lenses in this range, ok when stopped down and a little soft at the long end. It has a push pull zoom which I hate, well I hate this one because its so stiff and that sticky substance he mentions in the listing must be a flaw in the design or something as mine has it also, I think it is some sort of internal lubricant for the zoom which leaks out, god awful stuff which sticks to everything and won't come off

I would stay away from it if I were you. I would be to embarrassed to list it on E-bay so its locked in a cupboard out of sight out of mind. Definately not worth 45quid.

If I lived in your neck of the woods I would give it to you, but would expect you to sneak it back on my doorstep when I wasn't looking

I've passed on the link which Craig suggested. I'm just not very knowledgable with the old 35mm lenses really (aside from the LTD's of course!!)

It looks like it is in a poor state.

Its still looks better than mine, that sticky gunk has erased all the lettering off mine
