Sigma 85mm f/1.4 & My First Use

A week ago or so I was contemplating which 85mm lens to buy, the Pentax FA 85mm f/1.4 or the Sigma 85mm f/1.4? As I had sold some photography kit I no longer use, or needed, I had the funds to purchase either lens, although the prices for a good copy of the FA were a little too high I thought. Anyway, after asking others on this forum which they thought was the better lens in their opinion, together with a lot of research on the web, I decided to go with the Sigma 85.

My reasons for choosing Sigma? The price was lower than the FA 85mm and I would have a 3 year guarantee with the Sigma. Furthermore, the Sigma has been designed for digital, so it seemed logical that it would be better suited to digital. As the lens was delivered on Friday, I thought I would try it out over the weekend, so took a trip out to the West Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Saturday afternoon. Decided to explore some of the beaten track areas and discovered some great locations for future portraits. Here are three from Saturday, two highland cows and myself. I hope to get a few portraits over the next few weeks to show the potential of this lens.

So far, I really like this lens and its focal length, it is providing my photography with a new look which was what I was after. conclusion, I think it is as good as the FA, perhaps even better?

Congrats on your purchase, I'm pretty certain you'd have been happy with the Sigma or the Pentax - from what I've seen of the Sigma it's excellent quality, and as you say "designed for digital" makes it the sensible choice
