Kingfisher,I know it's not perfect but you usually only get a fleeting glimpse of this bird...

A good set, particularly like the Jay, the Kingfisher is so very nearly a good shot, but as you say they are difficult.
For MF and non OS I think you should be very pleased.

Agree with Davex, above.

Heron 2 is a really good, in-its-environment shot.

The kingfisher is really good too.
The lines of the lower two branches lead up to the bird, then the eye follows the blue & orange curve back down the next branch & back around.
Good composition, to my eye.
Therefore, crop some of the top (third)(?), leaving himself on a thirds point as well!

Thanks for letting us see.

Nice shots Roy especially as hand held with a beast like the 50-500.

Nice set.

#1 could perhaps be improved if you can sharpen the Heron, its eye in particular.

Love the expression of the Jay.

Agree with #2 being the best of the set - very nice shot. The kingfisher is also technically a good shot - they are very tough little blighters to photograph without using a hide, being very aware and usually moving a little further away once you get within 40-50 yds.

A cracking set. Its sets like these that make me want to get out there and start trying to take some bird shots. Something I never thought I'd want to do.

Impressively sharp as that lens must weigh a wee bit.

It is a bit heavy but manageable for a short time

I'd clone or crop out the second heron in the bottom right of the image
well seen Gareth this was the adult who quickly chased the juvenile away so i didnt get much time to take this shot.
I will crop it on the original.
Thanks for the comments ......
