Sigma 10-20mm wavy distortions?

Hi,
Dreaming about getting a wide-angle zoom for landscape and architecture photography.

I've been sifting through a lot of posts and reviews regarding the Sigma 10-20 mm and Pentax 12-24mm - both seems to be held in high regard. I don't want to start a new thread about the relative merits, prices, resale value or personale preferences since it seems to be exhaustively covered allready *s*

My question is: it seems that the Sigma experienses wavy distortions, right? Isn't that something that will potentially & seriously ruin horizontal lines in landscape and architecture?

Anyone has good/bad experiences with this in their landscape/architecture photography? - your thoughts will be highly appreciated.
Best regards,
John

If it is something you are worried about you will also know about perspective distortion from tilting the camera. In which case PTLens will solve all your problems.

Tyr: Thanks for your reply. I'm aware of the distortions in wide angles from tilting the camera. That's not my worry. It is only the WAVY distortion I'm insecure about since I have not experienced this kind of distortion before.

I'm planning to use the wide angle at level shooting and prefer not to have to do distortion correction in post processing.
Best regards,
John

Can anyone comment on whether PTLens is better (and how much better) than the built-in function in Elements (and, I assume, PS) for barrel or perspective corrections?

Not all reviews mention wavy distortion and I've not noticed any myself.

Anyway, the distortion (of whatever type) with this lens is too slight to seriously ruin horizontal lines in landscape and architecture. The only time you will notice a lot of distortion is when the lens is extremely close to the subject.

Otherwise this lens is excellent for low distortion - except at the extreme corners at 10mm. See http://tinyurl.com/ywgx28 (Photozone). Bear in mind that 10mm is amazingly wide - and it's amazing that any lens can be reasonably good at this length, let alone as good as Sigma have managed. It's remarkably rectilinear.

I have one and it's making my wide-angle dreams come true!

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I guess that settles it: the Sigma is now on my wishlist! (anyone feeling philanthropic? )
