Sigma 1.4 TC

Hi,

Am thinking of buying a 1.4 Sigma TC to use with lenses on my Pentax K-m, though apparantly it seems that the 1.4 TC is not compatible with the Sigma 120-400 lens.

Anyone know if this is true (according to Sigma;s website it is the case - but their website has never been that accurate (in my opinion))

Any comments appreciated.

SDM (Supersonic Direct-drive Motor) is the same as HSM with sigma and USM with Canon, every brand has their own naming for it.

About the TC.
The Sigma DG TC only fit on DG lens so far as I know. Those TC are also a bit different since they fit onto the lens rather then the body.
With most other sigma's you can use another brand TC but some sigma lenses when zooming or focusing extend into the body and those can't be used since they would hit and damage the TC.

I'm no sigma user so if someone can confirm this.

The 120-400mm was made so that the Sigma 1.4x and 2x teleconverters could be used with it but it seems Sigma have a problem with its new Pentax mount HSM lenses and as this is such a lens I would presume it does not work correctly.

Ultrasonic motor enabled with latest Pentax lenses. Not relevant for older AF lenses.

Yes they fit on both but the DG TC are specially designed to fit DG lenses, that's what I meant by that.

Quote:
These dedicated APO tele-converters are mounted between specific lenses and the camera body to increase the focal length by the power of 1.4 or 2.

These digitally optimized tele-converters employ the latest lens coating technology to reduce both flare and ghosting. A combination of these dedicated tele-converters and specific DG lenses ensure the best possible performance. The new special design maintains the master lens’ high-level of performance while extending its focal length.

If you look at the list you see that it does work with the Canon, Sony & Nikon but that it doesn't work with Pentax.
The best thing you can do is contact Sigma.

Please don't waste you time!!!!

I, like a complete numpty, assumed that the Sigma TC would fit the 120-400mm and guess what? It doesn't!!!

I spoke to Sigma and they said that were looking into a Pentax fit but at the moment the TC's do not fit.

Please don't waste your time, I bought it from W/Express and sent it back the next day.

Here is my post from 5th Mar 09 stating what a lemon I was:
