Shots of lightning during the day

We've had a few storms around here recently - with some great lightning displays. Are there any tricks to capture shots of the lightning bolts during the day?
If I leave the aperture open I get an overexposed photo, if I try to 'catch' the lightning I seem to miss it every time.

Any tips?

I've had luck in the past with very slow iso (200 is the slowest on ist D) and very tight f-stop. Try the highest f-stop on your lens, but make sure your sensor is clean first or you'll have a bit of touch-up to do afterward. Needless to say, night lightning pictures often look more appealing because your eyes are drawn to the nightning, but I'll bet you can get some interesting scenery in the view as well and come up with some genuine original images.

The smallest aperature possible and as long of an exposure as you can get away with. The trick is simply having lightening go off while the shutter is open, and you can keep the shutter open for quite a while since the ambient light is very dim.
