Short Eared Owls - Monday 16th - Northampton

Will be going back to shoot the shorties on Monday approx 10 miles north of Northampton.

Long range forecast on the Weather Channel does indicate sunshine and 0% of rain which probably means that there will be stormy gales and I won't be going!

Should it turn out as expected though, if anyone fancies meeting up, just let me know and I'll pm all the details, mobile number etc.

If the owls show as good as this week with some sunshine, then it should be a very good day and look forward to hopefully meeting a new face or two!

We'll be expecting some great pictures then Danny? Looking forward to seeing them next week.

Hi. Danny. We have met. Vic here. As you know I live in Kettering not far from Maidwell. I'd love to go with you but I'd get my head in my hands and my brain to play with if I went on Mon. 16th. as it is our 52nd. wedding anniversary. 'Nuff said. However if you change your date at any time then let me know. Or give me directions so I can go myself sometime. If you PM directions then start travelling from the Stags Head, which by the way the last time I was there the food was excellent.

I've just uploaded another pic to the gallery which might wet peoples appetites... taken yesterday when it was a bit sunnier - only downside was that they tended to fly higher as a result! Although they were still using the perch that Danny has got his eye on for Monday!

I'm probably going to go on Monday Vic. There's lots of other things I SHOULD be doing! but I still haven't managed the closer, sharper, shot that I'm aiming for (as is Danny I think!).

No, I haven't done anything on lenses yet - trying to convince myself it's worth waiting to see what Ricoh/Pentax come up with and/or whether I can get a good deal at focus on imaging!

My last few shots of the owls have started me thinking that the lens might be back-focusing a bit, so might test that out today.

OK Martyn, approx what time will you be there? I have your directions but it would be nice to meet somewhere? Poss. the carpark of the pub? OR you Danny as we at least know each others faces.
I think I might see if there are any offers on the K5 at Focus as I have missed 3 recently.
(1) The seller changed his mind and kept it.
(2) One PU member accepted my offer then sold to someone else.
(3) I was outbid on ebay.

At the weekend the owls weren't around until 2.30ish (but in the meantime we were entertained by the Pytchley Hunt riding through, anti-hunt demonstrators - and a fox (before the hunt!).

Strange thing is, when I showed the deal to Fiona and told her that I had managed to find and reserve one she offered to buy it for me, woohoo!

At least I'll have a new toy to play with if we get bored waiting for owls!!
