Looking for some advice guys, I've bought used lenses from folk based in the US before but a while ago, I'm considering buying a lens again from someone in the US but he's asked whats the best way to ship to the UK, something I know nothing about!
I was just wondering if anyone here has had anything shipped across and what service they used.

They can do it insured 5 day parcel (or something like that).

Be prepared to pay approx 25% of the declared value in import charges when it arrives.

Use USPS if you can - Royal Mail do the delivery at this end and if there are any extra duties to pay they don't add on such huge "collection fees" as UPS, FedEx, etc.

I think DHL charge least at this end but who knows how these things change.

USPS is by far the cheapest. And yes, be prepared for 25% charges.

I have used UPS for a very large, heavy item.

(The item was not available in Europe and therefore it was a case of pay the cost or not have the item).

Royal Mail charge £8 on top of the import fees, or at least they did last time I bought something from the US. As regards how much you will be charged by Customs, this site is your friend:

AVOID UPS & Fedex.

Use USPS (United States Postal Service) which is their national 'Royal mail' equivalent.

If you add the item cost + the post cost and to that total add approx another 22% is roughly what you will pay.
