Shift lens for Pentax DSLR's

Apart from the fact that this feature is not available in some of the 'entry level' cameras (eg: K-x, K-r) is there a real advantage in using this in-camera facility, rather than using post-processing software?

Or you could use a wider angle lens and crop towards one of the edges
