Sharpness is a bourgeois concept!

That was quote #24. 25 others discussed by the classic Kai from Digital Rev

I loved that video, and that comment.
Sure Cartier Bresson did'nt rely on the perfectly sharp lenses (damn even I am mentioning CB as Kai did.....LOL)
Like all photography it depends on the subject, and indeed the "moment".

As long as the image is not out of focus, then it could be called creative.

Don't mention that to cameraphone users, especially those who use instagram........Oh Dear.....Errr.....LOL

Instagram will die a death due to it's saturation. People are already tiring of it on Facebook. There's nothing creative about applying the same preset filter that a billion other people have used.

Regarding sharpness, I think it depends where sharpness is placed in the pecking order of goals in photography. I guess it's analogous to Audiophile sound in which people are obsessed with the most pure/perfect sound reproduction possible. The quality of the music itself is secondary and sometimes even irrelevant.

I think it's quite common for dull/flat photos to be produced because an aperture was chosen to try and get everything from 1m to infinity away in focus and sharp.
