Nice blog Jonathan!

A delight to read. It particularly made me smile in the week I swapped my well worn K5 for a shiny new K3 at nearly half the initial list price after trade in and purchase discounts.

What a great blog Jonathan. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and agree with your thoughts on the K-3, it really is a superb camera. It does need to be treated with care though, the additional resolution does not like even the tiniest bit of camera shake, so it's vital to have good camera skills to get the best from it.

I've kept my K-5iis as I can't bear to part with it. It's not too far behind the K-3 in image quality and is still a magnificent camera which get used on a regular basis.

That sums up Pentax quality perfectly for me Jonathan. Its a well written blog ( blogs aren't usually so well crafted). I've always rated the Pentax ergonomics very highly. For a time in the 1990s I had the use of a clunky Nikon FM2 at work but much preferred working with my rather worn and battered ME Super which was lighter and much, much more comfortable to handle.
When I upgraded from the K10 to the K5, K30 and a year ago to the K3 I was delighted at the improvement in image quality. I use all three of these cameras regularly; it means I don't have to change lenses so often.

Thanks guys - I'm blushing now! It's good to hear that there are many of us who are so happy with our cameras and who are still loyal to the marque. I think 2015 is going to be a very good year for those of us who are still Pentaxians (I have no inside knowledge, it's just that I feel the signs are now consistently pointing one way!).

Could we really be saying in 3 months time that:
Pentax build the best APSC DSLR system and camera in the world
Pentax build the best medium format camera system in the world
Pentax build the best/most compelling enthusiast/pro full frame DSLR system in the world
Pentax build the most portable interchangeable lens camera system in the world
Ricoh build the most compelling and flexible action cam system in the world

Very interesting read. It made me wonder how many of us went through the

ME super -> ist D -> K10/20D route to the K5/K3 world of today

I was:

Zenith E >Pentax Spotmatic>ME Super>MZ 10>MZ 7>K10D>K7>K5

I now use a Q, a Kx and two K5's and won't be changing anytime soon....whatever comes next, these cameras do everything and more for me, I'm very happy

Hmmmmm........ not quite, my routes been

K1000 to ME Super to Super A to ISTD to K10D to K7 to K5 plus K5iis plus 645Z

I still have the K1000 but the meter doesn't work, should get if fixed, even if just for posterity

I don't expect to change the last 3 for a long while yet, particularly the Z

My SLR route has been:
Zenit/Spotmatic/MX/MEs/Z1/istDS/K10x2/K5/K30/K3
Not all one at a time, I've mostly kept at least two cameras on the go at the same time.

though my camera route was slightly different.....

MV1 (1980), ME Super Black (in 1982), Super A bought in 84, In 1988 I sadly sold all my kit.
Then in 2012 at my good lady's insistence, I bought a K5II, followed a year later by a K5IIs, and a year after that my K3 (thank you Mr PPI refund) so after nearly a quarter of a century I came back to Pentax, largely because of the build quality, and because I didn't like any of the canikons out there, nor did I wish to be a sheep and follow the masses.....
I'm now slowly gathering a nice collection of lenses to go with the 3 bodies I still have, it seems to me to be a very easy way to part with your hard earned cash, I juts need a raise to get the next piece of glass!!

I moved a lot quicker to the K3 having only got my first DSLR a K50 6 weeks before I upgraded.
I was prompted by daily visits from a colleague who is a Nikon bore who was constantly expecting disappointment from the K50 and was trying to sell me his old Nikon kit!
I too am glad to be in the Pentax brigade as the cameras feel so much better as well as nice to use.

It's interesting to read about other people's journeys and to see how many started with an ME Super or similar and yet are still here. It's also interesting to hear about others who have in fact departed the marque and yet come back into the fold.

I've tweaked the article and also added some Pentax K3 pictures - much easier to do now that I have the K5 going spare to shoot it with!

I'm very glad people found it an interesting read!

Thanks, Jonathan, for that blog which I found an interesting (and amusing) read.

Would you consider sending a link to it to the camera editor at "Which?", the consumers magazine? I suggest this because "Which?" consistently ignore Pentax cameras, or when they do mention them give them a very low grading. There seems to be inbuilt prejudice there against Pentax, not to mention ignorance. For example, this was in a recent email from Robert Leedham in reply to a message of mine complaining about the bias against Pentax cameras:

"Why are no Pentax cameras Best Buys? Without getting into specifics, their all-round performance just doesn't match those of other cameras. So although they may perform slightly better for something like image stabilisation, they'll be let down in another rating like shutter speed."

I have exchanged several emails with him in the past 3 months, protesting at the bias against Pentax cameras at "Which?".
