All very nice.

I love the line of trees - how do we get rid of the power pole?

Cheers.

I could probably mask it out or crop the image

My immediate reaction is that they lack a little 'zing' - there's no sparkle to the shots that makes them stand out and make me think they are little more than just record shots... If anything the lighting is a little flat - what time of day were they taken Pete? You might want to try earlier or later in the day...

Seems like you had nice weather though - shame really as the skies in the top and bottom shots could do with some clouds to add a little interest.

What's the second one with the rocky foreground like in colour? Also I'm sure with this shot that you could have made a little more out of the rocks and used them to lead you into the shot better, the rows of rocks almost go in the wrong direction for me - from the top shot you clearly know how to use leading lines in your composition...

Hope some of that is fairly constuctive Pete? If anything I'm jealous that I didn't get time to go out with the camera yesterday - we had some nice light down here...

PS - are you able to make you images a little smaller? I can't see an entire image on the screen in one hit without either scrolling up/down or left/right...

Sure that has some impact on how we view them - why would I want to see just 3/4 of a shot? I want to see it all in one go...

Hi Pete,

1 & 3 are my favourites. As a suggestion for 5, as you have a couple of nice bold colours in the lifebelt casing and the bench, how about upping the saturation, even over doing it a bit (or a lot) and getting a bit of punch from them. I personally like OTT colour in something like this, real in yer face.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think the subject lends itself to it.

Cheers

Hi Will,

I agree, but if you use IE7, in the bottom right corner, you have a zoom option, so you can scale the page down to view the whole picture. This option is also available in AVANT browser.. the one I use. I cant see the option in FF, but I have a fairly old version, and if IE now has it, I'd hope it's in a later version. Opera has teh same facility under View | Zoom.

There's an extension "Image Zoom"
(BTW, Avant is built on top of IE6...)

Pete, have you tried cropping off the bottom third of the second one, making it landscape instead of portrait? Th lines of rocks work better then imho.
And I agree with Liam on photo 5.

OK Guys/Girls

Here are the images resized, a couple have been cropped and a few have been saturated with more colour. The originals on my screen looked very strong with the colours so I think it depends on our monitors settings etc..

Hope you like them

PS It was a very quick edit as I'm off out shortly

Pete

Thanks for the re-size Pete! I can see them properly now... without changing the zoom factor of the whole screen!!! Cheers for the tip chaps...

The extra saturation has helped the waterfall pic and as for the change from B&W to colour for the rocks pic I'm still undecided. And I think that pretty much sums up how I feel about this selection of pics - IMHO they lack that something special... Playing around in editing isn't going to change that... Sorry Pete but I just find them a little uninspiring.

What was it my old Tutor used to tell me??? "You can't polish a ****"

Pete - have you thought about trying to critique your own photos? What is it that they say about being your own biggest critic? Yes that's it...!!!! Try to find the faults in your own work - it's amazing how much you can learn by doing that. Look at your own pics and tell us what you might try to do differently the next time? It's amazing how many faults or areas for improvement you can find just by spending some quality time assessing your own work... On a number of courses that I've done we've spent hours or entire evenings picking holes in our own work, as well as looking at others and deciding what you'd do differently.

There's a time & place for getting the opinions of others but you need to become skilled at doing critique on your own work...

Have a go........

Matt
That'll explain it, I haven't got any extensions loaded.. I just use it (and all the others) to check that my web sites work.

Re: Avant.. that's the beauty of it. IIRC, when using most other third party browsers, you still need IE for updates etc, and to access certain pages.. I don't have to switch between browsers for this. I think it uses the IE7 engine now as well, and the security etc, has always been better, with updates almost monthly, rather tahn when MS gets around to it..

Cheers

That really made me laugh I take it the word missing begins with S and ends with T

Not quite... the exact phrase used a word beginning in T and ending in D... and it's not aimed at your pics but at post editing in general (IMHO). You can take a great shot and tweak it but you can never rescue what wasn't there to start with...

Did you have a think about the rest of my post - we never hear from you what you like or dislike about your own shots. What made you take them in the first place, what elements work, what don't...

I tend to only post shots that I feel really work, ones that I love, ones that I'm proud to have taken or ones that illustrate some point that I want to get across - maybe it's a technical thing, maybe I've tried something new?

Sometimes I can see why you post a particular shot, like the original ones of Merlin (was that his name - the Border Collie that is...? Anyway great Pet shot!!!) but sometimes I'm sat here wondering why you've shown us some of the images that you do...
