Is the 308s compatible with the lights your trying to trigger ? I always trigger mine manually.

The L-308s cannot fire a strobe light. unless you connect a sync cable between the two.

The sync cable is used between the meter and the strobe light. If the strobe is triggered manually you will get a reading. I have the L-308/s its a good meter. I find the easiest way to use it. Is to use a wireless trigger. With the receiver connected to the strobes. Just keep the trigger in hand as you meter. Or better still get a second trigger. you con get a complete set of triggers and receivers for under a tenner on ebay..

If your using on camera flash. Then its either a two person job. Or you can prop the meter up against your subject. The second on isn't especially great but you will get a reading. Interested how you get on.

When you see this flashmate on youtube it seems to work as good as the other sekonics on the market, when geting a flash reading off strobe or flash gun does the mode still have to be in triggerd flash mode or unless using sync cable
