Try taking the shot later in the afternoon Stan it looks to me that this was taken just after or before midday as you are facing east and the light is coming from the right.Seaton Sluice harbour i think looks best at high water with the sun starting to set which can some times give the Kings arms and the buildings on Rocky island a pinkish hue plus if there is no wind you can get some great reflections in the water from the boats.

Thanks for that Geordie, I was out on an exploring session for likely sites and took a few snaps between here and Tynemouth. One place I wanted to be would require the use of a small ladder now to get down to the rocks at the North Pier, I remember a long time ago you could walk from Tynemouth sands to the fish quay at low water, don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon.

I was actually impressed by this, particularly the excellent dynamic range. Look at how well you've held detail in the sluice wall and the brightest clouds. Lovely light and colour, too.
I admit to being initially confused as I've been to Seaton on numerous occasions yet didn't recognise the scene. I didn't realise there was another Seaton, north of Devon!
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks for the kind comments Andrew. I've had another look at the full size photo and can see what you mean now you've pointed it out I will also try and get down there later in the day, in suitable weather, and at high water as Geordie suggested.

Seaton is quite common in this area, Seaton Deleval, North Seaton, Seaton Colliery etc

I like this. The lighting may not be the best, but it still works. I like the low tide too, with the boats lying there waiting.

Actually I wonder what it would like converted into "drawing" in PS. I think that would really work with it.

I've run it through "Oil Painting" filter and resized it for uploading, it looks 'better' full size

I've got some textured paper so may try printing it on that for experimental purposes as I'm not sure what the paper setting in the printer should be ? Probably hi res plain paper ?

I think you did great under the lighting conditions and I like the composition and colours.

On a personel post processing note for me the brightness of the water on the right hand side could do with taking down as it takes to much attention from the rest of the scene in shadow.
