Searching for a FA 28mm

Hi!

I've been enjoying my Pentax kit more than ever, and now I have a big change in my life coming up: I'm going to be a father!! My lady is expecting a baby girl!

Ok, I assume many of you already had this fabulous experience, so I'm sure you understand my dilema:

Am I ready to photograph her as she deserves?!

I believe I am not! I need a few lenses for that! I'm trying to convince my lady that our daughter deserves only the best: and that means a Pentax-FA 31mm F/1.8 AL Limited. If I cannot convince her, then it's time to secure a backup: the Pentax-FA 28mm F/2.8 AL seems a great one, but I can't find it anywhere! Not locally, and not on the web; it seems no-one has a FA 28mm to sell!

Can someone help me? Thanks!

Óscar

You suicidal?
You gonna ask a pregnant woman if it's ok to buy a wide angle lens?
To take her picture with?
Ummn...Good Luck with That.
Ps.
All joking aside...
Congratulations.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Many congratulations! My wife gave birth to a baby girl 3 months ago and she is a joy to us both.

95% of the photos I have taken of my daughter so far have been with the 50 mm f1.4 and I am tremendously pleased with the results, especially indoor shots at wide aperture - super sharp eyes and very nice out-of- focus backdrops.

IMO, 50mm would be a more useable focal length than 28 mm for baby photos - especially on a digital body where it becomes a 75mm. I also have a 24mm/2.8, but this has hardly been used for pictures of my loved ones - that will come into play more in the future when she is outdoors more often.

Yup, I'd say one of the SMC 50mm/f1.4 for sure (FA, F, A)
Low light, indoors, outdoors, portraits etc - a real gem of a lens. Absolutely lovely!

Much more available than the 31mm. Also has the advantage if you shoot at f2 to f2.4 and focus carefully on the eyes that everything goes lovely and smooth - she may well thank you for that

...mind you I'm probably only saying that because I haven't got a 31mm LOL!

Thanks for your comments!

Yes, after reading your comments and playing around a little, I come to agree: the 50mm F/1.4 will be better at first. I have the A 1.4, but I feel autofocus will be nice to have when you want to photograph a moving baby...

So the same problem arose: where do I find a Pentax-F or FA 50mm F/1.4 ?! No stores seem to carry it, just as the 28mm AL!

Apparently everyone wants to have the latest DA lenses: the 21mm, the 40mm, even the 70mm are everywhere, as are the DA zooms, even the 10-17mm. But it seems to be getting increasingly difficult to find the older glass.

Anyone have any sugestions (or a nice F or FA 1.4 for sale)?

Thanks!
Oscar

SRS Microsytems are getting some SMC PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 lenses in but they are still awaiting stock.
