SDM lens & K30 camera
That statement was made when those cameras were the current (or recent) models, all Pentax DSLR's (including the K30) since work fully with SDM lenses. You have nothing to worry about with that combination
Greatly appreciate that, thank you.
David
My K30 works perfectly with the DA* 200mm f2.8 lens so it would obviously function equally with the DA*300mm lens.
David
Thank you
My K30 works with all my DA lenses
much appreciated
I have a DA300 F4 and tele adapter for sale on the classifieds. Both will work with your K30. The ultrasonic focus motor is connected to your camera via the two 'powerzoom' (purpose some years back) contacts inside your mount ring.
Thanks, Bill.
I have a Pentax 1.4x converter and am now awaiting delivery of the lens from SRS Microsystems.
I had the lens on my Amazon wish list and had been watching the price for some time. It came down by £150 on Friday to £849.
I decided to google it before ordering and found it at £699 from SRS, so they got my order.

I have been interested in purchasing a Pentax DA* 300mm F4 ED IF SDM Lens, so have been reading up on it.
I have read on this site that "The SDM (Supersonic Motor) system can only be used with Pentax K10D, K20D and K100D Super. All other Pentax DSLR cameras use the AF drive system incorporated in the camera body”
https://www.pentaxuser.com/news/pentax-da-digital-slr-lenses-12
I’m confused by this statement as the pdf download for DA lenses states:
“Supersonic motor compatible camera body :K series (excluding K100D & K110D)”
http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.uk/en/product/21760/body/downloads/Photo-Lenses.html
The statement on Pentax Users site suggests that my K30 is not compatible, however the statement on the Pentax PDF seems to suggest that it is.
I would welcome comments from users with K30 & SDM lens combinations, or anyone with a better understanding that me !
