Hiya
i've not used a 4gb card, but i'd guess that as a 2gb one says 600+ when new it could be that the counter only goes up to 999... so it will count down when you have less than that number left.
i recently did the firmware upgrade, so i might try using the 4gb cards now... good to know they work.

Pentax k1000, MX, ME Super, K5iiD 18-55, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 500 mirror, pentax 10-17, 50 1:4, a manual 28, some extension tubes and a bagful of memory cards. That's all i need... and a load of film cameras too... that's it, honest.

On my K10D I've got the the Extreme 3 SDHC card and when set to RAW files i get a reading of 243. When set to JPEG at 10mp i get 827 set to 6mp i get 1378. Which tells me that either your counter is stuck or you need to check your settings.

looking at the manual - a shocking thing to do - the k100d only has a three digit display for the number of images, so 999 would be the max.

I know how to fix your problem: shoot RAW.
That brings it under 999 with an 8 GB SDHC card. I'm at work and I can't remember the exact figure. I think it's about 166 RAW with 2 GB and 664 with 8 GB in my K100D Super.

I've checked now. With K100D Super RAW files, it's 189 pictures on a 2GB card and 754 on a 8GB card.

This is very unlikely to be the same from one card-full to the next, since the amount of compression it gets with each picture will be different.I've checked now. With K100D Super RAW files, it's 189 pictures on a 2GB card and 754 on a 8GB card.
An empty 2Gb card result in a camera prediction of about 120-something RAW(PEF) images in my K10D, but I was getting more than 180 the other day, since there was a lot of featureless sky in them which would have compressed a lot.

I have just bought a 4Gb SDHC card for my K100d and on the top LCD display the photo count is stuck on '999' is this what the camera will always display or do I 'have to / can I' change anything in the camera setup. I have taken a few shots and the card is recording the images properly with no problems. I am not too worried so long as the card is storing the images and I can retrieve them O.K. I just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has had the same thing.
