SDHC card in a K-30 - Unusual problem??

Today I took the K-30 to work with a 7-Day shop 8Gb card (which I have had for a couple of years and not had any trouble with in either the K-5 or K-R)) in it and took some shots.

Then the trouble started!:

a) The camera could see the images on the card, but two different PCs kept could not using an SD card reader,or in one case, directly in the SD card slot. (BTW: checked that the "LOCK " tab on the card was not in the "LOCK" position).

b) The PCs both told me that I had to format the card before use - which I did with a full, not quick, format but the PCs came back and told me that the format could not be completed successfully,. Again, the camera could still shoot and review the images on this card nevertheless.

c) Came home and put another card (8GB Verbatim) in the camera and took some shots - a 3rd PC with a card reader could display the images on that, so it does not seem to be the camera at fault.

d) When I put the 7-Day Shop card in the card reader in the 3rd PC, it recognised that something was there but came back with the message "Please put a disk in the Removable Disk" but no message to format the card.

OTOH, I did manage to format the card successfully in this 3rd PC and then the K-30 wrote/read it and the 3rd PC could also read it! The same card then seemed to work correctly in the K-R and the K-R images could be viewed on the 3rd PC!

Therefore the fault is almost certainly the 7-Day Shop card, which will obviously get binned, but does anyone have any idea what might be happening with that card as I have never seen this type of problem before and it worries me that the K-30 might be doing something to cards to cause this ?

Chuck it in the bin and buy new. You never know, the next time you use it you have taken that award winning shot that will get you fame and fortune and the card is dead!
Bin it, replace it ... they don't last forever.

Yes, obviously, I will be binning this card - but, before I do that I did one further experiment, i.e. to format the card again in the K-30, take a few more shots with that camera and then put the card in the 3rd PC, which could now still read the images on it! .

Final thought: before I used that card in the K-30 I had failed to format it in THAT camera as it had already been formatted in either the K-5 or K-R - and I think that this omission might have been the trigger for all the problems. OTOH, I have never had the same problem when swopping cards between the K-5 and the K-R

Moral: ALWAYS format the card in the camera that you want to use it in!

I think you have solved your problem. To futher prevent this happening again, sell the 30 and get another 5

Tell you what - YOU lend me the money and I'll buy a K-3 -> even better idea
