But there is got to be some one out there with a answer to the question....? It's driving me crazy I have a picture view on a small 7.5" photo frame but not really eye catching is it.

No, but you need something with a video output. Like a laptop....and you don't want the alternative to cost as much as a laptop I presume.
How about a refurbished laptop from a local IT shop. It might only cost £150 or £200 to get a really good one.

There are devices like this available. However, they are generally HDMI output.
There may be a VGA output device somewhere...

I'll second the DVD player option, I have a cheapo 10" Goodmans one for the car which has an SD slot and video out. The slideshow transitions look a bit ropey though

There is a HDMI to VGA socket adapter. I use one from the video card on my computer. It enables me to run two VGA monitors from the same card. .....or am I on the wrong track?link

I have found one on ebay and yes Barrie their is a HDMI to VGA so it look's like I'm sorted just looked at a dvd player but no VGA port.

Watch out!!
I believe the HDMI-to-VGA cables are for taking VGA output and connecting to an HDMI TV
You'd want the other way around: to take an HDMI output and drive into a VGA monitor. If you can find this then it'll work with DVD player as well.

I use one of these link at home for my music connected through the stereo. It also has VGA outputs or you can use a SCART adaptor so it will work on any monitor or TV and has a slideshow function in the picture viewer which I use for going through my pictures on the TV. It's got 4GB of memory (you can get up to 160GB memory versions, mine has 40 GB) or you can get an adaptor to put SD cards in it, although it seems this version takes SD cards anyway.
They go pretty cheaply on ebay which is why I posted that link.

But newer monitors do have both HDMI and the new DisplayPort inputs...

HDMI and DVI-I are maybe the same electrically, but they are different plugs physically (as is DisplayPort, the new standard for graphic cards).

I would like to use a old monitor as a image viewer(in reception) but have no idea how or what hard where to use.
I don't really want to use a old computer or a laptop to power the slide show.
So what are my other options must be small in size.
