Hello, Can anyone tell me the maximum capacity SD card an K110D can accept if the firmware has not been updated. I'm new to DSLRs and would very much appreciate any help, many thanks.

I think the maximum capacity is limited more by the card manufacturer more than by the camera. I've not found many decent SD cards over 2Gb to be available (SanDisk Extreme III or similar).

The K110D is a 6MP camera and 2Gb cards are probably the largest I would want to use in it. The bigger the card, the more photos you risk losing if the card gets lost or damaged.

Short answer: Take it to a camera store and ask if you can try some cards.

Update your firmware. There is no reason to delay upgrading as new firmware usually fixes a number of issues.

If you update the firmware in your K110 it will happily write to a Saandisk 4GB SDHC card.

I know, mine does

If you leave the firmware alone I would agree with Mannesty, 2gb does gice around 600 shots! you'd run out of power before the card was full
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

Many thanks for the advice. I am a little weary about trying a firmware update because of my lack of experience, both with my computer and the camera. Afraid I might "wipe" the existing operating system within the camera and make it useless. I will take Mannesty's advice and try a 2gb card they're relatively cheap now. Again, many thanks

There really is no drama in upgrading your firmware. use a freshly charged set of batteries, download the latest firmware for your camera, follow the included instructions. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete, if that.

The prcedure is simple.
Format a card in camera, then connect the card to your PC.
Copy the firmware image file to the root folder of the SD card, then put the card back in the camera.
Press and hold the menu button on the back of the camera whilst turning power on the camera.
The rear display will show your current firmware version, and the new one on the card.
It'll ask you if you want to upgrade the firmware, choose yes.
Wait for it to complete. Completion indication on the K10/20D is a flashing card busy lamp (rear bottom right of the camera).

If you are still not happy doing it yourself, maybe we have some other members in your area who can help, or take it to a dealer and ask them to do it.

Thanks again Peter. That's what I needed, step by step instructions. I'll have a go and post the outcome. I'm new to the forum and quite pleased with the level of sensible people who freely give good advice. I'm a returnik to the world of SLRs after putting my pristine ME super away in a drawer 5 years ago. It's amazing how much I'd forgotten about 35M/M photography, looking forward to picking it all up again.

You're welcome. You'll find complete instructions on the download page. The most important thing is to use fully charged batteries. The upgrade process will not exhaust the batteries, but if the ones in use are about to become exhausted the camera could shut down mid-upgrade. That is about the only thing that might corrupt the process.

If your camera has several versions of firmware, just download the latest one. It's not necessary to apply each upgrade in turn.

No it doesn't. It says "*Blank, formatted SD card (8MB or more) "

MB, not GB.
