Hi All
I've noticed that on my DL2 i can get 93 RAW and 341 JPEG images. But on my K10D i only get 62 RAW and 205 JPEG why is this. I'm using a Extreme lll 1gb card
6/10 = 0.6 is approximately the ratio of the number of pixels in the DL2 sensor to the number of pixels in the K10D sensor.Hi All

205/341 = 0.6, so no surprises there for the JPG.
I'm curious as to why it's 62 RAW and not 56, however.
Presumably, the camera makes a guess at how many pictures it can fit on the card - it can't know exactly in advance because not all image files are the same size, not even RAW files (PEF anyway).
So maybe the way it works out its guess is slightly different between the cameras.

The K10D has more pixels = larger files = less on a card.

Just to add,
K10D PEF files are losslessly compressed - so they vary greatly in size.
Other PEF files, and the K10D DNG files vary slightly in size because of the variation in size of the embedded thumbnail JPG file.
The K10D tells you how many uncompressed PEF files would fit on the card, but in actual use you'll get more PEF files on there - as you've demonstrated.

my K10D averages 75-80 shots on a 1G card, though as you have noticed it always claims 62 when the card is empty.
Pentax have a long tradition of underestimating how many shots will fit on a card.

you don't have to be mad to post here

DL = 6mp
K10 = 10mp
the more pixles the bigger the file, so the less ammount of pic's can be loaded on the card.
