Scene Modes

The DL2

Just curious does anyone use any of the eight scene modes ?.

Have got those on my MZ7, they make such a pretty display of coloured lights when the camera is switched on , fortunately my istD didnt have them and the K10D doesnt have them either.

The only "mode" that got used on the MZ7 was "Auto" and that was when I handed it over to the wife .

I did try them out just to see if they did what they were supposed to do, and they did, so full marks to Pentax

For anyone who's not sure what their doing I think theyre brilliant, for anyone else I think there a waste of time. IMHO of course.

I agree, Auto Picture mode is a masterpiece of Japanese technical wizardry.....but it and the scene modes it chooses from do nothing that a reasonable photographer can't do him/herself.

My MZ-7 tends to stay set to no flash auto picture, and I use the aperture ring to pick whether I actually want full auto or Av mode.

My DL2 might go into Auto Picture if I'm handing it to someone else, but my Camera is one of those possesions which I am very picky about who I allow to use it. Most of the people "cleared" to handle my SLR know how to handle the creative modes.

I don't expect to ever engage "green" mode on my K10D.

I have used the mode for infill flash at night. Just couldn't get it right on my own and the sun was sinking fast...it worked perfectly. Once tried the sport mode to get my dog in full gallop but didn't like the result. I also used auto for a long time until I finally plucked up courage to switch it to M
