Sand in mi WR lens

I was on the beach with mi K30 with 18-55 WR lens and as the camera is weather sealed I didnt care much about sand and water. After I came back home I put the camera under the shower but I can still hear the sand when I am focusing or changing the focal lenght. Can anyone give an advise how remove a sand from mi 18-55 WR lens.
Thanks Marcel

P.S. Sorry if I create a topic that might already be here but I didnt find similar topic.

The WR lenses have "simplified weather resistant construction which makes it difficult for water to enter the lens" - they are not waterproof and not dust resistant. So although all weather use seems to be fine, submerging is out and I certainly wouldn't let grains of sand into the mechanism.

There's a video out there on YouTube showing resistance to sand, but I'll bet it's a DA* lens.
Best regards, John

Tricky problem that might require the lens to be dismantled to clean the sand out.

The WR means Weather Resistant, that doesn't mean sand proof.

Or that washing it in the shower is a good idea......

Yes John it is the DA*lens but it also ut say that it is dust, cold, water proof.
I didnt sink the camera in the sea (just few drops of water from dogs) i just place it once in sand with lens facing up while i was just sitting and enjoing nice weather.

Take the lens off the cameras and throw it in the bin. Buy another lens.

Buy a waterproof point and shoot if you want to.put it in the sans and rinse it off.

What does the k30 manual say?
Lurking is shirking.!

What does the Pentax adverts says???

Well, from the described exposure to sand I don't think any lens would have been affected at all - if the camera was back downwards in the sand then the lens wasn't in the sand? The camera would have been fine no doubt.

Not what I would do, but you're right in that the advertising suggests that you can.

The simple answer is send it back to be sorted under warranty and see what happens.

If the Pentax ad says/shows the same usage as caused you this issue, and is therefore inferring that it's within the normal camera/lens capability, then you might have grounds for getting it fixed foc by Pentax.

Which ad are you referring to?

any add that says weather proof. Imagine you are on beach in windy condition. Sand can get on your camera easy without placing it in sand. And also on Pentax website is shown video with young people on the beach with the camera in sand.

Does anyone have a copy of the actual lens spec where they define "weather resistant".

I find it hard to believe that it survived water but not sand.

The current K30 ad on the Pentax states site says:
Thanks to the K-30, for the first time in a long time location doesn’t matter. Whether it’s a sandy day at the beach or a trek into the wet rainforests of Belize, the K-30 is the ideal DSLR camera to capture your memories regardless of your location or the elements you face.
link

So it should be fine then

It's no good saying the camera's fine on a sandy beach if the lens isn't.
I'd save a copy of that ad - it may come in useful to support a claim if Pentax renege on its meaning and subtly alter the wording.

I used my K200D (weather sealed) with the WR kit lens on the beach without any problems. I got some sand in a non-sealed FA lens once and the focusing became "gritty". I fixed it by moving the focusing ring to break down the sand until it was fine again.

That add relates only to the K30 body, nowhere does it mention anything about lenses.

Whilst the body may have very good weather/dust/sand sealing, the budget WR lenses are not likely to offer the same protection. For that, you'd need to use the DA* range of lenses.
