Seriously though, it never ceases to amaze me how flippant we humans can be regarding out sight, to me it is one of natures most wonderfull gifts, I started to seriously look after my own eyes about 20 years ago after a splinter of ceramic tile gave me a wake up call.

Suffered it too. Was welding when some idiot walked behind me and knocked my visor off.
Just a couple of seconds is all it takes.
What also p****s me off it those people who weld their cars in the street with no consideration for anyone walking past. The neighbour of an aunt was a regular and my aunt would often complain about "sore eyes"

Agreed on that one - I had a few experiences of a 'side flash' when I couldn't cross the street and had to pass folk welding gates, railings etc .

Arc eye, is what happens to stupid buggers who weld without adequate eye protection!
It is a particularly painful condition caused by the retina's exposure to arc flashing and Uv radiation. It feels like there is sand in your eyes and vision is blurred. Fortunately, this only lasts for about 24 hours and to my great relief, does not cause permanent damage.
I will not be doing that again.
Let us remenber, People... WE ONLY HAVE ONE PAIR OF EYES!... Look after them. A camera is not much use to a blind person.
