The trigger voltage needs to be measured to be sure. Replacing the camera electronics will outweigh what you saved on a flashgun!

If you are happy to go with someone elses reported reading the D650 looks OK here: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Shame the site does not list several of my old flashes from film days.

Your camera may not, but you didn't ask that
Seriously - if the trigger voltage is greater than 8V be wary and take extra advise (or use someone elses camera to check first)

Well the list is useful for what it has told me as I don't have a digital meter - only an analogue one.
At least I know that the Pentax AF160 and Centon MR20 Ringflash are OK and that Hanimex Pro 550 is not. I will just have to get a slave unit for my other old flashes as the K-x does not have a sync port anyway.

Any voltmeter should work (I would think) as long as it
has a range going up to about 600V which would cover most
smaller flashes.
An alternative is use an old ballpoint pen to short
out the PC lead. If it welds the ball in the pen to the
outer brass.... stay clear!

It works fine, I use one on my K-5 as the Voltage is less than 5v.

Providing it has a high ohms per volt spec. Which most have in the higher voltage range.

Eventually got around to testing with a voltmeter and got a reading of 3.7 v. So if anyone else, like me, discovers a long forgotten LCD632, they are safe to use.

Will trigger voltage be a problem?
I very rarely use flash and don't want the expense of buying a P-TTL gun.
