I'm sorry Gwyn.
As you raise your glass tonight , remember all the good times you had , and be very thankful for them. He has given you some wonderful memories - guard them well.

Take pleasure in what you have, whilst you can. You never know how long it may last. That's the mystery of life.

Thank you everyone.
We have just enjoyed a glass (or two) of Californian red. It seemed appropriate.
We also toasted baby Snootchies, and baby Paul_C too. I hope they both have long and happy lives and can make friends with folks like Al.

He was one of the funniest, kindest and most generous people I have ever known. He was my youngest son's Godfather, and he paid for my, then 11 year old, son to have a two week holiday with him in California.
We first met him when my husband was working on a joint UK/NL/US satellite project. When I accompanied my husband on a trip to the US he gave us the keys to his house so we could stay there, since he was in Florida at the time.
We stayed with him several times over the years, and he with us. Is family became an extension of ours.
There will be no funeral for him. He is being buried at sea, as befits an ex-marine.
Tonight I shall raise a glass to Al and remember him with joy, but I am still so sad.
