Saalbach - Austria January 2013

Hi All

Just back from skiing in Austria - as always I agonise over taking my DSLR with me - as usual decided not to so took the trusty Optio WP (5mp). When its sunny I cannot even see the screen, so it is truly a "point & shoot". I had it set on the built in Surf & snow setting. And once again Im really impressed with the results. The attached is a stitched image (using Microsoft ICE) produced from 8 separate shots. Then some slight post processing with Aperture.

I'm really pleased.

I'll try and persuade myself to take the K5 and 18-135mm WP next time.

Does anyone have any tips for photography whilst skiing?

Yes, first and foremost enjoy the skiing. For the photography take something very compact.

Why not try one of those head (helmet) mounted jobbies?

I do have a HD bullet cam that can be helmet mounted, get some decent video from it. but it's not Pentax, So best not to discuss here.

I really want to explore something other than landscapes, so may try with the K5 next time. I'll need to investigate some sort of carry bag/protection- not only for the kit but for me- I can imagine the K5 could inflict a lot of damage on me if I fall on it!
