S50 focus problem

Hi, I have an Optio S50 compact for carrying around all the time, however the focusing is either not working or is way off. It seems to be spot on when I use the macro settings but any other settings just seem to result in blurred or fuzzy pictures. I don't have it set on manual focus or landscape infinity. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you sort it? I have only had the camera for a few days but I am not new to photography, I have got 30 years experience. This is the first time I have had this problem with any AF camera.
