S.R. on a monopod?

Mike. I know where you're coming from, but, as the monopod gives no vertical movement as per the tripod will this have the same effect as using SR on a tripod? If I have a ball head fitted and left semi loose for up and down swivel all other movement is done on the monopod and is very stable just like a tripod.
Has anyone else out there got an opinion?

There will always be some movement as long as you are holding the monopod, it's impossible to keep it perfectly still unlike a tripod. If you have no interaction with the monopod at all then leave it off.
Anyway, do a search on Google , 99.9% say leave it on when attached to a monopod.

I would leave it on. SR detects movement, and doesn't stop working just because there's no movement in one particular direction. There will be plenty of side to side movement, which is one reason I don't find monopods very useful.
Best regards, John

OK. OK. Between the two of you you've convinced me. I'll leave it on. I always did but just thought I'd ask anyway just in case there were other thoughts on the subject. Bullies

Monopods are useless in preventing side/side movement. You can buy a very expensive foot that helps to stop it.
SR is probably also useless for side/side movement. I would still use it (SR=ON) with a monopod if I had to use one even though I've also got a Uni-Loc Duopod that stops the sideways movement.
This video shows it in use. 4 mins long. but they've included it twice making it look like 8 mins.

I used to have a Uni-Loc monopod which was very heavy with a very large foot attached but I P/X'd it with a very large Uni-Loc tripod and 645 etc. to SRS many years ago when I got my first *ist D. Now I have my Velbon with a large ball head which I find good for Mallory Park etc. It takes the weight when I have the Bigma fitted.

My experience with mono-pods has been mixed, unless I'm shooting in the same 'height' all the time I end up leaning it to one side or the other, thus I usually leave the head unlocked - I'd leave SR ON. If shooting with a light lens I'd prefer to shoot handheld - with SR ON, if shooting with a heavy lens I'd prefer to use a tripod with the head unlocked - with SR ON.

I always leave SR off until I absolutely need it. SR can make your images slightly soft. (Which is what the K-3's AA filter simulation is relying on)
I keep my shutter speeds higher than my focal length which pretty much always gives me a steady shot.
