I apologise if this has all been covered before (i have read the threads) but i am having trouble getting my head around all this off camera flash business

I have a flash bracket too enable me to run one or 2 flashes (AF360FGZ x 2) off camera. (one on either side of the camera)
I believe i have 2 options on how it is triggered.

(1) Wireless will allow me too trigger the flash with the pop up flash and i can change the camera setting so the pop up is either Master (which contributes to the flash) and Commander which doesn't (stop and correct me if i am wrong )
Does the flash still work exactly as it would if mounted on the camera :
I don't need any adapters to run it this way :

(2) Wired I would need to get the adapters and cord, Extension cord F5P,
Hotshoe adapter FG, Off camera shoe adapter F : (again correct me if i am wrong.
Does the flash still work exactly as it would if mounted on the camera :
If i wish to run 2 360s i would need an extra 2 F adapters and 1 extension cord F5P :
Does the pop up flash still need to be utilised with this setup :

Just some clarification on my assessment would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Clarky,

Option (1) - nothing else is needed. Just set the AF360s to SLAVE1 (see page 49 of the manual). The K10D needs to be set to wireless mode in the flash setup - and you are correct, you can choose in the custom menu whether the popup contributes to the exposure or not (there's always a tiny weeny dot of light in catchlights even when it's set to a controller only, but nothing more).
Exposure works exactly the same as when on the camera. Auto zoom won't work, of course, but then that's probably not a problem with macro.

You can also use the "A" and "M" modes on the flash if you're feeling adventurous But with P-TTL everything should be fine.

Option (2) will require a pile of stuff. It'll cost you more than the price of an AF360 You'd need two 1m cables, two adapters for each flash, and two stacked up on the camera. As you'd need two on the camera you won't be able to use the pop-up. If you use the single upright adapter on the camera then you can choose to use the pop-up or not. Total cost would be near £200 for the cables

I'd say stick to option (1)
