Total ****** imo.
his ocd issues well applied to collecting data and presenting facts make his site worth while, but his attitude towards the brand makes you wonder.
Personally I think he's got his head so far up his behind, I'd like to offer him some ex-lax so I can watch him drown in his own crap...lol
But if you are good at separating the useful info from the conjecture and vitriol... his site is worth your time.

All Pentax+Ricoh need to do is:

* Mirrorless camera.
* Full Frame (using APS-C format lenses the camera "crops" the sensor for backwards compatibility)
* Compatible with all Pentax lenses back to M's of yesteryears.
* That Sony sensor.

It can be done. Seriously. Anything less than that won't have too much of an impact for me personally.

Then again, with Pentax's investment in APS-C, I don't think we'll ever see full frame.

I dont think I could afford full frame tho.

I think its better but its a bit out of reach.

the 55-300 is a high quality lens for APSc but on full frame it would be no big deal.

as a hobbyist photographer I think £500 for a lens is top money FF would be a lot more.

If they did it I would probably try and find a way- so I hope they dont!!

Although Pentax didn’t announce anything at CES, they showed me a top secret model that’s going to be unveiled within the coming weeks. All I can say is that you’ve never seen anything like it from a design standpoint. Pentax will also release a few more point-and-shoots, but those are top secret at the moment as well. I really like Pentax. I’ve never had any major issues with their cameras and image quality is consistent across the board. For the mid-level DSLR shooter, you can’t go wrong with a Pentax. I’m predicting good things from from this company and am looking forward to reviewing the new models as they arrive from Japan.

Sounds like the rumour about Marc Newson designing the new camera might be true... My brain is whirring trying to imagine how this new camera is going to look... it's either gonna be WTF? or 'instant design classic'... sounds like a pretty radical departure from what we expect a Pentax DSLR to look like. Hoping for a minimalist take on the MX, in really high quality materials, with a reining in of the designer's impulses towards brightly coloured plastics and 'biomorphic design'....

Note that the camera has a shutter button on the side for shooting in portrait format!

Looking at the thread on 'the other site', the new mirrorless model may apparently already be in the hands of testers and several people have mentioned a very 'brick-like' design allowing it to be sat on it's side or on one end. Apparently it also looks very unusual!

Apparently there'll be another announcement after this one, too; so fairly early into the new year and Pentax may well have three new models.

Pentax launches Optio VS20, a new digital compact camera as well as an additional powerful 20x optical zoom with a focal length from wide angle to super telephoto and macro, have an additional trigger button and a specially designed zoom lever which simplifies shooting with the camera in a vertical position.

Its compact body is packed with advanced features, including 16 effective megapixels for crisp images with high resolution, powerful 20x optical zoom and an extra large, bright anti-glare treated, dirt resistant 3 "LCD color screen. It also has an additional shutter release button and zoom lever gives a good, steady grip, even when shooting in vertical position. The images on the LCD screen rotates automatically and the camera has a tripod thread for vertical mounting.

The new setting Handheld Night Snap takes great pictures with minimal noise at low light.

"Pentax Optio VS20 is a universal high performance camera that can handle multiple motives and situations than most conventional cameras - from spontaneous snapshots to travel photos and sports photography," says Helge Rose at Focus Nordic, Pentax Nordic general agent.

Key Features
20X optical zoom with a focal length of 28 mm wide angle to 560mm super telephoto (equivalent 35mm format). Thanks to its large zoom range takes Optio VS20 great motion pictures in all modes, from landscapes to sporting events. In macro mode you can go all the way down to 1 centimeter from the subject.

The combination of 16 effective megapixels, high-performance image processor, powerful zoom and an advanced CCD shift-type SR mechanism for image stabilization, provides a very high image quality. Images enlarged remain sharp from edge to edge. When shooting still images the camera automatically increases sensitivity up to ISO 6400 by detecting the brightness.

Automatic selection of the best program mode for a given subject or scene by analyzing a number of parameters in the entire frame. The camera selects the fifteen available scene modes, including the blue sky and sunset, and optimize the various camera settings (eg. Sensitivity and shutter speed).

New Scene Modes (Handheld Night Snap, Fish-eye and Sketch) and filter for greater creative possibilities. Digital Panorama is a feature that creates a panoramic picture of the two or three images. The new stretch-filter makes it possible to stretch out parts of an image for the eye-catching visual effects. Altogether there are thirteen digital filters and three image sizes (4:3, 16:9 and 1:1) to choose from.

Upgraded automatic face recognition memory, which means that you can prioritize the sharp focus and optimized exposure on pre-selected faces, useful when taking group shots. Also features Smile Capture simplifies the recording of live snapshots.

HDTV (1280x720) movie recording with his own start button, making it faster to go from thought to action when you want to shoot. Three new digital filters (Fish-eye, Miniature, and Sketch) makes it possible to experiment with more visual expression.

Among other features are shooting with a wireless remote control (optional) and
D-Range setting that prevents over-and underexposed areas of the image.

Price and availability
Pentax Optio VS20 is available in stores from mid-February 2012, and it will cost approx. £ 1,999, - including VAT. Neck strap and software for image viewing (Mediainpression), editing and archiving included (compatible with Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7).

Thanks John. I presume Google Translate has translated kroner into pounds - I doubt it's really going to cost £1,999!

These compacts look good- Pentax thinking of actual picture taking with the addition of a portrait oriented shutter button. I'm not aware of any other compact with this and I am sure there are lots of portraits taken with P&S cameras so it does make sense.

I thought Ricoh may drop the Optio monicker but they've stuck with it for now.

Not sure I'd pay £2k- unless of course the one feature that hasnt been mentioned is that it somehow has a Full Frame Sensor!!!!!!

Apart from the price, I think the translation looks pretty good.

The camera looks stylish as well, which always helps.

217GBP sounds a better price . I didn't notice if it has RAW, but even without RAW it sounds pretty good.

Look forward to more rumours. Not that I'm in the market for anything, but it will give an idea of where they are heading hopefully.

I could be very happy with it... waiting eagerly more more details

also noteworthy..this new compact Optio VS20 has similar specs to an existing camera.. is it possible Pentax stuck the k-5 guts into a compact??????
