I have several Sigmas, but not likely to buy any more in the foreseeable future because I have what I need, and I can't afford any new ones at the prices they currently ask - am I alone ?

Anyway, we are a minority player in the volume market, so why should Sigma pander to our needs until Pentax users buy more lenses?

And, OTOH, why should we buy more of them because of the large back-catalogue of compatible lens available to us?

In other words, a self-defeating argument from both sides of the argument, I think

Yes - why would Sigma want sales from Pentax owners? If a manufacturer restricts who they sell to they risk limiting their sales. Surely producing products that suit a wide customer base is the way to go.
But I think I will stick with my Pentax made ones.

To big business, loyalty means nothing unless it generates sales - and it has not recently done so for Sigma w.r.t, Pentax users buying their lenses.

OTOH, if they brought out a few more of those that really would appeal to well-heeled Pentax users (like an updated 100-300 F4), but at "affordable" prices, then maybe things could change.

PS- I think we are thought of as "cheapskates" in the DSLR marketplace because the bodies are "relatively" cheap by comparison with CanSonNikon bodies, and we don't want to buy commensurately expensive lenses.

Good luck in finding a 300mm f2.8 in Pentax Or a 35mm f1.4. We need the likes of Sigma and Tamron supporting our brand. In my opinion the new Sigma art series are superior to Pentax lenses.

II personally aren't looking for either of those lenses - at the moment I get everything I need from Pentax. If Sigma or Tamron make Pentax fit lenses then great but if not so be it - how long before New manufacturers come on the scene and also such as Samyang are becoming bigger players.

Well, I can't from Pentax, so we do need the independents - but, as I said above, the price factor issue is important.

I know it is wrong saying it but Pentax are to slow out the blocks
Take for instance the 70/200 which comes out later this month a lot of Pentax user would have liked that when the k5 came out if not before

I think you will find that Samyang are more 4/3 and canon/Nikon orientated with the amount of lenses

Better late then never I suppose. Hopefully over the next few years Pentax can add more choice to the range. Also if the new products Ricoh/Pentax are bringing out mean more people buying into Pentax this might convince Sigma and Tamron etc offering more of their ranges in the K mount.

But if you don't get the support now from third party lens company's you are always on a up hill struggle because the shops are not going to push Pentax as there is nothing in it for them the sales people are saying don't have that as you haven't got the range avalible
