Rooks? (repost - it disappeared?!)

That's weird - I posted that topic, but it disappeared? Sorry if shows twice then.

I took these pictures 2 weeks ago - am I right these are rooks?
Both pictures handheld, DA 55-300mm @300mm, full crop (100% scale) - They were a bit far. The first one was taken with shutter 180, so it's a bit unsharp. The second was better, but there is some purple fringing and I really couldn't get the 'shades of black' correct - it was all black or noisy. I tried my best - and I'm afraid it is not that good. What do you think?

They're not Rooks, they look more like Crows, maybe Carrion Crows?

I think some things are best left in the past Mannie

There's still a huge number of superb images here that nobody ever commented on. It makes a change from just following the live threads and it's surprising how many comments these resurrected posts receive the second time round.

The OP will probably receive an email from this renewed interest and maybe come back. If he does, he can finally get some sleep, knowing what this bird actually is

Don't get me wrong, You have already dug up a post I am glad to have seen but I was being sarcastic about this one because the OP hasn't been here for 3 years. Carry on

Well, if we're trying to invigorate the site and it's users, how's about some of these folk get a bit more involved?

A simple yardstick by which to discern Rooks from Crows is; if you see a Rook on it's own it's a Crow and if you see a lot of Crow's together they are Rooks...

I'm still alive As Mannesty thought I have received an email about comments below my post. True, I abandoned the forum a while ago - too little time unfortunately for all the things I'd like to do, but this has got my attention

I always have problem telling crows from rooks and ravens. At least magpies are distinct So thank you for helping that one out.

And they are very difficult to get the 'shades of black' right.

Cheers,
Michal

Welcome back Michal, and I'm sorry nobody responded to your query when you first posted it.

There are/were plenty of birdy people on here back then and I'm really surprised nobody answered. Anyway, query resolved.

Well part of the query anyway. There's also the bit about getting the shades of black right, which is a bit more difficult!
