Ringflash

Anyone used one?

I have one of these ring flashes, bought from another forum member. It's a very good TTL/manual unit but needs to be used in manual mode on a K10D as the camera doesn't support any TTL flashes other than in manual mode. There is also a less powerful and less versatile AF-080C ring flash too. The Vivitar 6000AF (or something like that) is a cheaper option than the AF-080C

The original comes in its own case with 3 mounting rings to enable the flash to be fitted to 49, 52, and 58mm filter threaded lenses.

That advert states that it "clips on to the lens", which is untrue, it doesn't. The flash head clips to a mounting ring which is screwed onto the lens, without which it can't be fitted to any lens so be sure you get those too.

I dealt with this company a few weeks ago and was not happy with my experience, they are apparently a Hoya dealer and I ordered a couple of Hoya step up rings for my Hoya Circular Polariser, I waited an unacceptable time for them and had a hassle, eventually they did arrive weeks later, to be disappointed to see they were not Hoya but Cokin.
I did speak to them to voice my disappointment but Wokingham did not have very good customer service in relation to this, informing me they were just the same thing anyway, even though I knew they should be less expensive.
Needless to say I shall not be dealing with them again.

Agreed, £455 is quite a price!

There is a Bower ringflash widely available from Ebay US for about £50 including postage. It's not dedicated in any way though.

I recently got one of the AF060C units from LCE. It was £69. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for the 140C

I've been in their shop, which is a squitty little dungeon, but left sharply when the services I sought were priced somewhat higher than I thought possible.

That price for a ring-flash is remarkable.

Judging from the prices of some of their old stock, I think they must charge it rent.
