Ricoh GXR

Could this be the shape of things to come or is it an evolutionary dead end ? A camera system with combined lens and sensor.

I think the idea's sound but the pricing a little on the high side. Still, if it's anything like my Ricoh GR-D then it will be a well thought out design with superb ergonomics and top-notch glass. I'd quite like to try one with the 50mm lens and the APS-C sensor, I'm betting it would be a pretty sweet set-up.

Seems an ideal situation for the lens designers, but less so for the consumer. Bolting the 2 most expensive parts together is going to mean expense for us.

You may as well just buy several cameras of different focal lengths, at least you can swap from one to the other quickly then. The "body part is essentially a screen & a few buttons bolted on.

interesting idea but RR has a point, it's going to be pricey!

And just imagine, you go down to SRS this year and buy yourself a lovely new camera system with 14 megapixel sensors behind every lens.

Next year there is a new version with 20MP sensors which do ISO 12800 with no decernable noise, and you have to buy every single lens again.

On the other hand this is more like a rangefinder than it is like an SLR, and Ricoh seem to be gunning for the Leica end of the market.
