That's a great portrait. Nothing extraneous, just the head, headgear, neck, and "shoulders".
A really very good shot.

Lovely image Neil! The blurry foreground is slightly offputting but nothing major. Very serene - love it!
Nathan I like your first one best, but there seems to be a slight purple cast to numbers 1 and 2? I mgiht not have noticed it if I hadn't just been looking at the muted colours in Neil's shot.

yes,it my hurried PP.
and the fact that in those conditions its avtually quite hard to get the correct white balance in RAW development. I was actually curious as to what others would do in the same situation to set the temperature and hue... I work in ACR.

Thanks everyone
And nice photos nathanever82 - I like the last one best myself, enough motion blur to show movemrnt but sharp enough to not make it a 'blurry mess'

Good pictures Neil.
I do agree with Tim about the bottom of the first picture, time for a crop? Shame the reflection in the third picture got decapitated.
Nice to see someone can wring a decent picture out of the somewhat maligned 150-500.

Very nice duck!
Had a browse through your blog too, some fantastic photos there! Subscribed
I don't know anything about the 150-500, and after seeing your photos had mentally added it to my list of potential LBA targets Time for me to do some research methinks!

Ive never understood the slagging the 150-500mm gets. I mean im not exactly an experienced genuis behind the lens (I just about remember what end to look in ) but I've pulled of some lovely photos since I got this set up, which comapre favourably to folks with more expensive kit standing next me. All I can think of is that people have read THAT article where the sigma zooms are towards the top in terms of failure and they assume it means they are rubbish when they do work. Or that it doesn't have Pentax/Canon/Nikon written on it so it must be inferior
Certainly for the money there is no better telephoto.

I've done a bit of reading and have read only good things about the 150-500. I had kinda assumed that Oggy had made a typo and meant to say "the much maligned 170-500"? Or is that not the case?

Here's a few from me, save starting up another thread. Sorry we missed you by a day Nathan!

All with K10D and DA*300mm. That last one has had a bit more than a tinker with the white balance - although we stayed until sunset, it wasn't very spectacular, so I had a play when processing the RAW.
Love your Pintail Neil. Held the detail on its front better than my head-on ones did.
Dan
