I thought about it for the Vulcan (Saturday, isn't it?) but I'm booked in a car show at Oulton Park that weekend. Had it been on the Sunday it might have been worthwhile because there's less going on at Oulton, but as the Vulcan is my main reason for going it's not worth dropping the local show for maybe 15 minutes of Vulcan action. I might do Southport a few weeks later, hoping for better weather than last year.

I suggest that you park on the outskirts at one of the 'pop up' park&rides, if u can

As for the vantage point if looking out to sea walk up to you left away from the RAF ground displays etc and keep going until you reach a monument with curved concrete walls a few layers deep - it is less crowded there and the monument is a useful shelter if it is windy

I haven't been for a few years but this worked well for me in the past

I haven't checked out the start time but it is usually busy so allow an hour at least to eat if you want something other than a take away and near the point I have suggested there are a few cafes to grab a brew during the interval if they have one this year

I won't be there as I have a busy schedule involving spanners and maybe paint brushes later

Thanks for advice. I ended up parking at leisure centre and sitting on the beach steps.
preliminary results show that:
a. My panning skills suck big time. I got some sharp photos of prop aircrafts but not that many. Fast shutter for jets was ok though.
b. Tamron 70-200 is a bit on the short side. On the other hand I was pleasantly surprised by af speed of K3 II and this lens.

I'm glad it went well for you

I stood in the shadow of the Vulcan as it passed over on it's return flight - I wasn't expecting that - stood in my overalls cleaning up after some spanner work - it was low slow and loud as it passed overhead

First time at the airshow, even though I lived within 100 yards of the Suncentre for 10 years.

I found parking on Grange Road easy and within 10 mins of the prom, saw no other Pentax cameras First impression I had was how delapidated the Suncentre and New Pavillion theatre looked.

I thought it was brilliantly organised. Vulcan was awesome and watched it as it went down the VoC. Thoroughly enjoyed the aerobatic displays too...
