Reviews?

I didn't know if I should put this thread under flashguns or here, so i decided here.
When looking through the reviews I noticed there were none on flashguns.
Namely the 540/360 FGZ and the more recent 540FGZii/360FGZii. Or any for that matter.
I'm sure someone with good flash knowledge could do it.
I know it would be more work for you, but I'm sure Nigel could do it. And I know you've done the write up on how to use them (and that's great) but I was thinking along the lines of a technical write up as is done with new cameras and lenses etc.
"OR" if anyone else feels confident lets be having you as they say.
I know I've made the bullets for someone else to shoot but it's beyond my scope to do something of this magnitude, that's why I'm suggesting someone else does it.
CHEERS Vic.

It's a good idea Vic, perhaps done already .... There may be something suitable on PentaxForums? It depends what sort of info you need. I don't have the technical knowhow (or patience) to carry out detailed performance tests, such as guide number measures, recycling times, coverage angles etc. There is a lot of this available both in the flash manuals and, apart from the most recent models, on the 'pttl matt.dm' website ... That site also includes third party options from Sigma, Metz, Tumax etc, as well as feature tables to compare the products.

I've been asked to do a table of comparative features in the next version of the Guide, so I will look to bring that forward and I can put it on the forum separately even before the next full Guide edition is ready.

What did you think of the sections in the Guide that compared the older and newer AC-540FGZ units? I wanted that to be sufficient to make a good buying choice, but it is not a technical description or testing report, more a 'hows it in practice' discussion, with images.

In any case, flag up any questions you may have .... I'm sure that between those of us who use the flashes we'll be able to provide most answers

Cheers Nigel. I've only just got my 540 FGZii for my K3ii and I took a few pics at the Cardiff flower show on Friday for my wife and all seem OK. (I do use a Stofen diffuser on my guns) some with the LED turned on and some not. I have the 540 FGZ which I put on my K3. My "Old" 500 FTZ I've given to my daughter in law to go with my old K10 which she has now. I used that on my Z1p and my *istD. I have still got my 280, and my 2 AF400T hammer heads and a 080 ring flash. All of which have been used on various cameras. They still come out now and then to play with.
It's just that I'm a bit of a nerd and like to read what others think technically about the things that I have. I've read the operators manuals for the 540 FGZ and the Mkii from cover to cover. Some of it is easy to understand some I find a little confusing. But I can usually work it out in the end.
The difference between the 2? I like the modeling light as it showed up the flowers really well in the tents. The fact that it's lighter and smaller makes a difference when carrying around all day.
