That leaves one question:

The sun on Friday was bright and low - one of those days when you needed sunglasses if you looked southwest. I had hoped the haze in the pic helped to capture that effect. If it failed, what suggestions have you about how to improve that aspect another time? ::
One of two filters, or both, might have helped.

1: A circular polarizer (CP) to lift the colours and cut down on reflections. The haze could be reflections from any mist in the air and it may have helped to minimize it.

2: A UV filter might have helped if the haze was due to Ultra Violet light, but I doubt it was.

If the haze was just dust and traffic grime, you were on a hiding to nothing and the only remedy is to get closer.

The use of a CP might even help accentuate the misty effect to give the result you ask about.
