Yes - forgot I didn't bother with last one. Doubt it affects this issue though.

Get it bought... but buy more memory cards, the way it eats through 16Gb cards is astonishing

Dave, on this occasion I'm not sure you are correct. Version 1.11 includes a specific firmware correction for this issue in that it detects if it starts occurring and reset the camera; see Ricoh's official explanation:Yes - forgot I didn't bother with last one. Doubt it affects this issue though.
"Added automatic reset function when detecting rarely occur abnormal motion of the sequence.
(When automatic reset function is operated, latest setting will be reset)"
This sounds a bit drastic to me, but it confirms they have done something specific in 1.11 to counter this potential issue.

Thanks for the heads up David. I must admit it hadn't happened to me when the update first came out so I didn't take much notice. Might as well do it in case it happens again.

My K-3 is on the latest update, and , this morning, it turned into a machine gun.
Fortunately, it didn't happen on a paid job, or during a wedding.
Hopefully, it won't happen again.
Happened to me this week for the first time. Just about to take a shot of a Wryneck (quite rare, for the non-birders)by remote. Plugged the wired remote in (didn't turn camera off) and pressed fire (in burst mode) and off it went like a machine gun. COuldn't stop it without taking out the battery. Luckily already had a few shots but wasn't too happy! I'm am on current firmaware.
