Replacement Lens/bayonet Caps?

Anyone know where I might be able to get hold of some replacement lens caps - front and rear? One of my new lenses was supplied with the old style push on cap which I thought was a little cheap of Pentax! Also I'd like to change the sigma rear caps for Pentax ones as they fit a little quicker and easier...

There used to be a price list up on the Pentaxuser main site and I've previously ordered them direct but I can't see any way of doing this now.

They do come up on ebay occasionally, but seem to sell for silly prices.
I always find it strange that camera manufacturers will provide a cheap push fit cap on new bodies and then state in the manual that that is exactly what it is and advise you to buy a proper body cap. Cost cutting I suppose.

They do, but like you say go for silly prices and tend to only be the older 49mm caps and with broken springs!!!

Is there a contact number at Pentax UK that might be able to help?

If you need several, try a direct approach to Rocky, the Ebay seller AKA member446885.

He sells a lot of Pentax gear, and tends to separate the lens caps from the lenses and sell them separately.

Thanks George - I had a quick look, he's got a couple of body caps and one rear lens cap but they all look really grubby. I know they'll clean up but for the prices that Pentax used to charge - around £4.50 for a lens cap - I'd happliy pick up all the items I need in one hit.

Seems a shame if the old facility to buy direct isn't there any more...

Maybe I'll have to place an order via SRS?

Just another thought, dont you have camera fairs in Bedfordshire?

Can't remember the last one that I saw advertised for anywhere local to me - is there a website that lists a lot of the fairs? I seem to recall one...

It's not a bad idea tho - might turn up a couple of the bits that I need but I think I'd be lucky to find the 77mm & 67mm front caps that I need...

Here is a great supplier for lens caps etc. http://www.fotodiox.com. They carry Pentax rear caps and generic front caps plus oodles of Pentax adapters. I bought some centre pinch front caps from them that are a breeze to use when you have your lens hood on. Their EBay store ID is fotodiox_gear and sometimes you can get cheaper prices there.

Shipping to UK is probably a killer though.

Watch out for Hama lens caps.

I used to have a bunch of these (7dayshop sell them very cheaply) for my various lenses. I have no stopped using them after an incident.

My Dad's 28mm SMC-M was in his camera bag with UV filter and lens cap on (both Hama brand). He is not aware of having thumped the bag and both of us are always pretty careful with our gear, but it must have taken a knock somewhere. The UV filter was shattered in line with the catch on the cap.

This can happen with these off brand caps because they sit too deeply in the filter ring and so rest on the glass rather than on the filter ring as they should.

For the most part this would only happen if there is a filter on the lens since most front elements are recessed into the body of the lens, but if not, or even if the lens had been wearing a polariser rather than a cheap UV, it could have been a very expencive experience.
