Just bought an *ist DS on eBay. Very happy with camera but unfortunately no original firmware CD-Rom in package.
Tried to download firmware from Pentax UK but at end of download am asked to insert CD-Rom provided !!
Would be very grateful for a solution.

version 2.00 firmware has to be loaded on a SD card to work. But if you refer to the software then you should contact Pentax on this issue. But the software isn't very usefull anyway

Thanks Golfdiesel for your reply on Jan 17. Yes, I did mean Original Software ( Sorry, not very computer wise ). You say this is not much good. What would you recommend? I've just bought an SD card reader.
Would this be ok to upload/download images to PC?
Many thanks,
Philip.

For dowloading from SD card reader to PC you can use the Windows XP Scanners and Camera wizard. I prefer to use the option in Rawshooter (I shoot all my photos in RAW), but I used to use Adobe Photoshop Elements which has a built in detector and transfer of picutres from cards to PC.

Oh - you are using a PC and windows, not *nix or a Mac?

for getting the pictures of the SD card onto the PC you need no additional software. Card readers and even the camera itself is recognized as a removable drive so you can easily copy them with explorer to your desired location. This should work on all operating systems which support USB storage.

My preference for dealing with the card reader is to simply copy the card into a folder on the PC. The folders are called SD1, SD2, SD3, etc. All you need to do is open My Documnets and My Computer and simply "drag and drop" the folder on the card into the appropriate folder on the PC. This does not delete the contents of the card.

When I have burned a back-up CD, also called SD1, SD2, etc., then the card is formatted for further use.
Best regards, John

Thank you, gentlemen. All I have to do now is find my way to the back of my steam-powered Dell (Windows 2000) to locate a vacant USB port and hopefully, my pathetic images will be thrust on to my monitor.
And by the way, the DS is an absolutely delightful piece of machinery,
Many thanks to all for now,
Philip.

Ah, the steam may be a problem! WindowsXP does a far better job than W2K at recognising cameras, scanners and other removable media. You may be best off using JR's drag and drop method.
