I think you'd have lots of failures using this method anyway Alistair. There's no EXIF data with the shot but at a guess you were probably using your Siggy 150-500 at f8 or wider. You'll have have focused on the eye, and getting that sharp would have be a priority.

With catch in focus the eye isn't the part of the body that will be the first part of the bird that will be at the point of focus and you will have a limited depth of field. So you might get plenty of pin sharp tails, wings, beaks, and perhaps very few sharp eyes

Thank you for clarifying that guys. But the above tech wizardy will work with the K-5 though right?

Sorry, I hadn't seen what camera you were using. And yes the eBay link is to a current ebay offering of such a device - there are others.

Unfortunately the jack socket for the RF remote is missing on the K-m, K-x and K-r but is on the rest from the K100D up to the K-5 and the Samsung GX's. Don't know about the Ist era cameras.

Not sure you'd get that perfect shot with a long telephoto this way, you couldn't time that critical focus. But for collective shots with a wideish angle lens with plenty of depth of field and to not disturb the fellas it should be fine (so long as you don't mind the odd droppings when the camera setup is used as a convenient perch!)

Aye agreed Jak

Its probably not going to wield the sort of results I want.

I suppose the remote I have ordered will come in handy for the tripod anyways

For those of you with a K-m, K-x or K-r you can easily make an RF remote to use on your camera. Range is very long, works in sunlight and doesn't need line of sight and can be fired from behind. I have written an article on this about a year ago if you search. Basically you just use a TV remote and device that converts IR to RF and back which you can get from Ebay or other AV sources. I use a little Lithium battery as most are 12v mains adapted to make it portable for up to 6 hours use in the field. Costs about £20-£30 to purchase the bits. No skill required, all purpose made. I've used it for Kingfishers. If you want full details pm me.

Has it got a battery in it, and if so does it have a little plastic tab to stop the battery running down?

As to which button to press, what does the instruction leaflet say?

Also, don't forget to switch on the remote 'receiver' in the camera.

It'll be one of the settings in the drive mode menu where you can choose single/continuous shutter releases etc.

Sorry - I meant on this forum. Didn't have time to search it out. It was part of another thread so not easy for me to find. As others have done, you can pm me for the details.

Hi Jak

Yes there was a tear away tab which was fixed to the battery. Took that out and theres a C N and P (canon, nikon and pentax) operational controls. When i press on the button? Nothing - the infared thing isnt going red either.

Any ideas?

Working again - very odd.

Anybody ever come across something like that with the Siggy 150 500?
