There are compatible wireless remote controls available that cover that range, eg: http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/products/3503/hahnel-giga-t-pro-wireless...

It's pretty ridiculous that a standard control protocol for cameras doesn't exist these days.

You can't focus, zoom in or change important in camera parameters with a shutter release or cable release!
The IR remote release for the Pentax zoom90-WR film compact (and several others) allowed you to control the zoom remotely. With an FA PZ lens it would be possible to control the zoom from the camera (the Z-1 could in the '90s).

Canon have for a long time done a Software Development Kit (SDK).

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/sdk_homepage

As far as I know no ones ever asked for a Pentax SDK so you
can't really blame RICOH...... (We need a means of colouring
RICOH RED in posts)
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff
