remote control

Hi, it says that the remote can be used four or five metres in front of camera, can it be from the back of the camera, thanks

It would be helpful for you to state what remote and what camera you have. I have a K-x and K-m, both have infra-red sensors on the front of the grip, so the remote can only be fired from the front. It seems to work from a fair distance away, but I've not measured it.

I believe you have a K-r? Then no you can only use the remote from the front of the camera. The K-5 allows it to be used from the rear too.

i have a K20D and the remote works on front and rear what camera have you got

The remote only works front and rear with the top of the range camera - so the K20D, K-7, K-5. Not sure about the K10D.

£2.89 from 7dayshop for a neat little pattern one and yes they only work from front on the KR. Useful though

Thanks for your replys, the remote is o-rc1 0r remote control F, and camera is a KR, i had the twin lense set, i luv it. I was hoping it would work, but its not the end of the world, thats in 2013 LOL

I think the IR controllers are a bit hit and miss, there was somebody on this forum a couple of months back or so, that had bought an after market pattern IR for his K10 and could not get it to work, suspecting the controller.

I replied that I had a genuine Pentax IR, for my K10, and I had never been able to get that to work, and that I had purchased a wired remote instead. I think there were a couple more replies with the same problem.

As said that was the K10, so the KR and the IR control may have been updated.

I know this does not answer your problem, but just to let you know, there does seem to be possible problems with the IR,s.

I think a wired remote, would be your best bet.

The remote is not the problem - the Kr just doesn't have a sensor at the back.
I have had a remote control F since I had the Ds and it still works just fine. Cheap remotes can give problems.

If you want a wired remote then some that are suitable for Canon are also good for Pentax and are cheaper too.

There shouldn't be any problems with IR releases. Some settings
are needed in the camera and the red light should be flashing.

Some of the cheaper remotes have poor battery contacts or very
cheap batteries that don't work too good. The remote also has
to be pointed directly at the sensor.

I've used them on K10D, K20D, K-5 without problems.

For a camera that only has a front IR sensor you could try
a small mirror or an alloy pie tray to reflect the remote
at the sensor.
