Our club (Durham PS) is holding an exhibition of prints in the town hall. This was timed to coincide with Remembrance Day, because after the service in Durham Cathedral the serving and veterans of the armed sevices parade to the market place then go into the town hall for refreshments.

Some of our members will be recording the event, why not get out and do the same in your area. The pictures are always appreciated.

My wife was teaching in an FE college on the 11th and they stopped for the two minute silence. From a class of almost 60, 10% had no idea what Remembrance Day is.

Utterly astonishing!

I think the old uniforms were a nice touch, a sad reminder that soldiers have been dying for their country long before the Great Wars.

I take it thats the Durham Light in the old red uniforms, and is that the rifle company or have the band simply adopted green?

Colonel John Lambton's 68th Regiment of Foot was formed in 1758 with the red uniform. They were amalgamated into The Durham Light Infantry in 1881 and now we have the Rifles.
The Borneo band is the Durham Army Cadet Band LINK

The DLI used to march fast at 120 paces per minute. Do the band still do that? and blow

If they did on Sunday they would have left the rest of the parade behind.

This is how the Riflemen do it, this was taken at the first passing out parade after their formation.

The best recruit was awarded with a musket so the link to the 68th is still there.
