Personally I think a smaller and somewhat lighter 400mm prime would have been a better bet. After all the 300mm DA* is pretty good value.

Another factor that suggests that the lens should not be very expensive - it is not a "star" series .. apparently there will be no ingress protection .. and apparently in order not to turn up the price .. I hope ..

I personally think the descision to announce it is telescope based design is a good marketing move.... I can see a lot of home astronomers buying this and the k-5 and gps unit as a kit just to use the star tracking feature... a new niche market other camera makers have left to third party T-mount adaptors.... So I expect this lens will priced aggressively....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

The specs haven't been confirmed yet... the road map is subject to change as it clearly states! Pentax reps have confirmed it is undecided whether to designate it a DA*. The mock-up recently unveiled does show weather sealing around the mount at least, but that could mean 'WR' designation which would be more in line with an attempt at an affordable super-tele.

The 560mm may well be based on a similar lens, maybe even the 600mm. Perhaps the 600mm always was closer to 560mm. In any event, it has no doubt been on the drawing board for some time, just waiting for the "Go" button to be pressed.
But we shall see. I doubt that I shall get one (unless it's VERY inexpensive), but I am very interested in it.
