Looking at doing a little bit of Landscape photograghy. Well maybe when it gets a few degrees warmer...lol

It's really an area I have little experiece of. I could get by without one. I guess. But feel it would be better with one. I would like some recommendations for an "L" bracket. Or details of what I should be looking for... ? I use an original K1 with battery grip. Manfrotto 200PL-14 plate..

I use a Kirk Enterprises L bracket, it is expensive but tailor made for the K1/K1.II so it fits snugly and allows access to all ports. With the exception of the Manfrotto L bracket, which is a crude affair, they all fit Arca Swiss heads because they need to mount on both the horizontal and vertical arms. However most Manfrotto heads can be converted to Arca Swiss with kits, Sunwayfoto for instance, there are YouTube videos on how to do that.

I use one like this that's supposed to be for a 5D Canon but both a similar sizes and it's done me good for about 4 years!

Thanks Gareth, Interesting choice. Would certainly suit me, price wise. As you use the same camera and lens. It certainly appeals. As I wouldn't use it all that much. Can I ask does It only take the Swiss Arca Plate ? Which though not a problem as such. Would mean me getting extra plates and converting...

The Sunwayfoto head conversion plate I bought from Photospecialist takes both Arca Swiss and Manfrotto plates so no need for new plates. Having said that I leave the L bracket on the camera almost all the time now.

And here is my expensive bracket. It looks like Gareth's fits more snugly on the side but this one allows access to the ports. The vertical bit is also detachable so you can just have an extended Arca Swiss plate - useful for fine sideways adjustments in close-ups.Comment Image

I cannot believe how dusty the camera looks in these, time for a good clean! And finally the Sunwayfoto adaptor which holds both types of plates.Comment Image

Got to say thanks for the images and advice guys. Decided to risk a tenner...!!! lol See how it goes before deciding if I need a better alternative,,,? Fiver each on Ebay. Plate will take Arca and Manfrotto plates. Bracket will probably cover the ports. But Unlike yourself Rob I wont leave it permanently connected.

Good man! Can't go wrong with them prices!

Once you have an L bracket you'll wonder how you ever coped without one!

PS, I wouldn't worry about getting to the ports as I never use them! Don't use a wired remote although I have one I prefer using the self timer, especially the 2 second self timer as it knocks off the image stabiliser in camera and the SD card slots are on the other side!

and it locks up the mirror. How do you manage long exposures, I do use a wired timer?

Bulb mode on K1 allows set exposure times over 30 seconds

Glad to see you got sorted, for the head conversion you might need an anti-twist washer (there is a proper name for it but I cannot remember it); the Manfrotto stem has a ridge to stop twisting so if your new head doesn’t correspond then you need one - Photospecialist were helpful for that. Also I ended up using Locktite on the thread as it can come loose after a while, and since then it’s been fine.

As for the cable release it’s on the opposite side so not an issue using with the L plate.

Yep, all arrived this morning.. I must say not perfect ! but I wont be using it a lot. First set up, and I already hate the Arca plate compared to my usual Manfrotto...lol Guess I'll get used to it..!! But for £16 for the lot. You can't really have any complaints..! See pics. Forgive the fact I havn't cleaned it....

Images from trusty/dependable K7..

P.S. If anyone has purchased the cheap "L" bracket. Can they say what the two chrome allen screws are for at each end of the bracket Please...?Comment Image
