Hi

Since I purchased my camera (Pentax ist D) in November I have been looking for a good simple browser that will simply let me browse RAW images as well as jpegs etc and finally after having tried Adobe, Corel and others I found FastStone Image Viewer http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm which simply does what says lets you view images. I can not vouch for the editing tools as I use Photoshop for that but for fast easy browsing of images including Pentax RAW images it is the business.

I am not connected with the product in any way but just want to let users know in case they had been struggling to find something as well.

Maybe other users have suggestions.

In what ways is it better than the Pentax browser for simply viewing images?

I have never used the Pentax browser so I can not say. Perhaps you could download it and let me know!

pentax browser should have come with your camera, it does exactly what it says on the tin, why download anything else?

now, if you could show me one which will run on Linux, that would be another matter. I've yet to find a suitable browser replacement for Linux.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Can you let me have a link for the download? If it did come with my camera I did not realise and can not find the disk.

Thanks.

It does quite a nice job of displaying thumbnails (including PEFs), which is something Irfanview doesn't do. It also has a pretty and intuitive interface.

Otherwise, it doesn't seem to do much else that Irfanview doesn't do, and because it is unable to display PEFs in the correct orientation, I am not sure that I would find it worthwhile to switch.

Full marks for trying, though. I have seldom seen such an attractively presented and easy-to-understand program.

For a JPEG-only shooter, it's more than OK.
